Now in the sixth (!) decade of his career, Herbie Hancock remains where he has always been: at the forefront of music and technology. In addition to being recognized as a legendary pianist and composer, Herbie Hancock has been an integral part of every popular music movement since the 1960s. As a member of the Miles Davis Quintet, he pioneered a ground-breaking sound in jazz, while also developing new approaches to music on his own recordings. Then came the 1970s, a time during which Hancock combined electric jazz with funk and rock in such an innovative style that albums like Head Hunters continue to influence contemporary music. The 1983 album Future Shock further marked Hancock’s foray into electronic music, though over the years, he also continued to work in an acoustic setting with the likes of Wayne Shorter, Ron Carter, Tony Williams, Pat Metheny, Sting, and many others.
