GHENT PRESENTS ON THE 6TH DAY
NEED YOUR LOVE…
…is what Trixie Whitley sang on her debut album. And we’re certain that she’ll get it when this super talent from both Ghent and New York, who has been praised by the likes of Daniel Lanois, among others, performs! With those mesmerising vocals of hers, we would be remiss if we didn’t invite her back to Gent Jazz Festival for a third performance. Now that she’s back on her home turf, she’s showing off a never-before-seen, rawer, electronic side of her nature and allowing just one special musician to accompany her on stage. Less is more! It’s up to you to discover the unexpected heights that Trixie can take you to, while keeping you riveted in place! If you’re expecting the same kind of raw performance from Peter Doherty, you made need to adjust them a bit. It takes a little getting used to, but when this guy performs his solo pieces, he isn’t afraid to get more poetic and less punk than you’ve come to expect from this enfant terrible. High time to discover a new side to the Libertines and Babyshambles front man! Once you return from your voyage of discovery, you should definitely head over and check out Jenny Hval and her magical world of inflatable swimming pools and watermelons before you move on to discover Ghent’s best-kept secret: STADT.
We want to balance out such a hefty helping of guitar riffs, which is why we’ll be closing out the Garden Stage with BLOW trio: the only sax dance trio to grace our country! After having gotten people to dance to their own pied-piper-like music multiple times at the Gentse Feesten, this masked gang is now heading for the Garden Stage. We are once again collaborating with our neighbours at the Conservatoire/Ghent School of Arts. Groups of students are joining forces with guest musicians and developing a coaching project that they’ll be presenting at Gent Jazz Festival. We like to get talent out from behind the school desks! This year, no less than three guest musicians have started up three very different projects: Mount Soon with producer Koen Gisen, Brain//Child with sax player Bo Van der Werf, and the new project by the former lead singer of I will, I swear - Fien Deman, Ivy Falls, will be taking to the electronic stage together with Pomrad. Gent Jazz Festival is guaranteed to have loads of high-quality, up-and-coming Belgian talent thanks to this!
