Wayne Shorter (sax), Danilo Perez (piano), John Patitucci (bass), Brian Blade (drums), Clark Rundell (conductor), Casco Philharmonic (orchestra)
It’s been nearly a decade since we admired his very first Gent Jazz Festival performance, and now the iconic jazz sax player and composer Wayne Shorter is returning to the Bijloke Site once again, with Emanon. Inspired by Shorter’s lifelong love of science fiction, super hero adventures, and mythology, Emanon takes you on an entrancing journey of apocalyptic proportions. Together with graphic artist Randy DuBurke (famous for his Marvel and DC Comics publications), Shorter adds an extra dimension to the music through a comic strip that has been created especially for this piece. The addition of the Casco Philharmonic, in collaboration with Festival van Vlaanderen, promises to make this evening even more special. If you haven’t seen this American legend in concert after all these years, you’d better seize the day because the combination of Wayne Shorter and his quartet together with Casco Philharmonic, being conducted by Clark Rundell, is even rarer than a day without traffic jams. Speak No Evil because Shorter will show you what true beauty is.
