The audience’s favourite Melanie De Biasio sold out the Ancienne Belgique no less than three times in the autumn of 2017. She is what we call a global talent with a local background, as proven by the fact that she is the only Belgian artist besides Zap Mama to have ever performed on Later… with Jools Holland. In January 2018, she won the MIA (Flemish Music Industry Awards) for best author/composer. Her talent has always been beyond dispute for Gent Jazz Festival. After her breakthrough in 2013 with the widely acclaimed ‘No Deal’, she played the Ghent Main Stage twice, in 2014 and 2015.
Where De Biasio’s next EP ‘Blackened Cities’ still sounded grand, her new album ‘Lilies’ is a lot more intimate. “It is not jazz, but also jazz”, so she says herself. In theory, Melanie De Biasio is always jazz, but in practice, she is so much more: blues, soul, fire and darkness. On Sunday July 1st, she’s ready to hold spellbound the entire festival tent once again.
