Who? Scott Colley (bass), John Medeski (keys), Jack DeJohnette (drums) en John Scofield (guitar) from the Hudson River Valley in New York, USA
Why? Because this jazz super group goes for the cross-over between jazz, rock & world music from the 70s. Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell & Jimi Hendrickx on a bed of blues and jazz? Here it come!
How do you know them? DeJohnette collaborated with legends Miles Davis and Keith Jarrett, among others, before he started playing with Scofield and both appeared on Herbie Hancock's 1995 LP The New Standard. The long-running trio of keyboard player, Medeski, Martin & Wood (often in combo with Scofield) has already appeared three times at the Gent Jazz Festival. Colley has been a part of formations with Herbie Hancock, Jim Hall and Carmen McRae, amongst others.
Listen to some now! These bluesy adaptations of Dylan’s "Lay Lady Lay" and Mitchell’s "Woodstock" make you yearn for festival summer.
