Who? Chico Freeman, saxophone player from Chicago, USA, surrounded by Anthony Wonsey (piano), Kenny Davis (double bass) and Rudy Royston (drums)
Why? Because Freeman is a highlight at every festival stage that he enthrals, as the Financial Times testified recently.
How do you know him? The jazz scene fully embraced Freeman after his collaborations with, among others, the iconic McCoy Tyner, Sun Ra, Dizzy Gillespie and Wynton Marsalis. This 68-year-old jazz lion has already released 30 albums, won the New York Jazz Award once and was twice nominated for a Grammy.
Listen to some now! His exciting live session at the recent Smoke Jazz, but also a nostalgic flashback to Freeman’s passage at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1981 are the perfect preparation!
